Opel Corsa Electric start against a high-alpine backdrop

Fifth round of the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup at the Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine. Three-way battle at the top: Alex Español leads narrowly ahead of Tom Heindrichs and Kilian Nierenz. Difficult special stages and a unique atmosphere in and around Morzine.

The Rallye Mont-Blanc Morzine is a highlight in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSE” calendar. For the fourth time, the teams will tackle the demanding special stages at the foot of the Alps’ highest mountain (4,807 meters) in their 136 hp Opel Corsa Rally Electric cars this weekend. In addition to the fantastic panorama and challenging asphalt tracks, the Rallye Mont-Blanc captivates with its unique atmosphere. Every year, around 250 racing cars transform the winter sports resort of Morzine into a huge service park.

The sporting situation ahead of the fifth round of the world's first electric rally one-make cup could hardly be more exciting. After two consecutive victories, at the Rallye Vosges Grand-Est and the ADAC Saarland-Pfalz Rally, Tom Heindrichs and his co-driver Jonas Schmitz have significantly increased the pressure on the leaders Alex “Sito” Español/Borja Odriozola. After four of seven rounds, the Spaniard's lead over his Belgian pursuer has shrunk to eight points. And just six points behind them lurk the Germans Kilian Nierenz/Milena Raithel, a duo who have already secured three podium finishes in their first full Cup season.

Although there are still a total of 105 points up for grabs in the three remaining races, none of the title contenders can afford to slip up. Especially since there are no discard results in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup. With Germany's Christian Lemke/Jennifer Gräfe and the Netherlands' Fabian Kamermans/Stefan Müller, two other fast crews are also still within striking distance of the top. This no longer applies to Marcel Neulinger and co-driver Jakob Ruhsam, as well as brothers Anthony and Adrien Rott, given their respective runs of bad luck, but the Austrians and French are still well placed for podium finishes.

A total of nine special stages covering a distance of around 129 kilometers are to be completed over the two days of the rally. The tracks lead uphill and downhill with fast, difficult passages that demand everything from the crews. The rally gets underway on Friday at 8:58 a.m. with six special stages. The long first day of the rally will not end until shortly before 8 p.m. The next day, the decision will be made at 8:48 a.m. with three more stages. The final “Power Stage” will start at 2:39 p.m., before the speedy electric cars roll over the finish ramp in Morzine at around 4 p.m. Rally fans can follow the electric action via live timing at www.adac.de/motorsport or www.opel-motorsport.com.
