Mokka GSe Rally: Opel's electric rally pioneers take the next step
Since the 2021 season, Opel has proven that electric rallying works. The Corsa Rally Electric, which is used in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe”, has proved to be a fast, reliable, and safe rally car. The near-series technology, especially in the high-voltage components such as the electric motor, inverter, and battery, easily masters the extreme demands of rally racing.
Acceptance and interest in the world's first electric rally one-make cup are growing steadily. Since its debut season in 2021, a total of 63 drivers from 13 nations have taken part in one of the 32 cup races in six countries (status Sulingen 2025). National motorsport associations such as the FFSA (France), KNAF (Netherlands), RACB (Belgium), and ÖAMTC (Austria) use the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup “powered by GSe” as an ideal training platform for young talent. Opel and ADAC are continuing their successful talent development program. Four Cup champions, Laurent Pellier, Timo Schulz, Calle Carlberg, and Luca Pröglhöf, have made the leap to the ADAC Opel Rally Junior Team and the Junior Rally European Championship, where they are competing for titles, victories, and podium places among Europe's best rally talents.
And now Opel, as a pioneer of electric rallying, is taking the next step.
The brand-new Mokka GSe Rally, which will replace the Corsa Rally Electric as the race car in the ADAC Opel Electric Rally Cup from the 2026 season and celebrated its world premiere in May at the ELE Rally in the Netherlands, represents a further development in every respect: stronger, faster, more uncompromising!
The key data of the new rally car from Rüsselsheim are impressive: a peak electric output of 280 hp and torque of 345 Newton meters, combined with sophisticated motorsport technology, promise performance on a par with a Rally4 vehicle. A multi-plate limited-slip differential and a racing transmission, together with reinforced drive shafts, ensure propulsion in all situations. The chassis has been manufactured in a lightweight design. The perfectly tuned rally suspension from Bilstein consists of reinforced McPherson struts and uniball mounts on the front axle and a modified rear axle. Electronic driving aids such as ABS, ESP and traction control are deactivated on the Mokka GSe Rally. The software tuning in the areas of engine and battery management has been designed for maximum efficiency and performance based on experience with the Corsa Rally Electric. The battery corresponds to the version used in the Stellantis Group with a storage capacity of 54 kWh.
The extremely high safety standards remain unchanged. Like the Corsa Rally Electric, the Mokka GSe Rally has a specially designed roll cage, special battery encapsulation, and additional underbody protection. The 400-volt system is continuously monitored by the proven Master Alarm Indicator. In the event of an insulation fault, a visual and audible warning system immediately signals a malfunction. Sophisticated sensors shut down the high-voltage system completely in a matter of tenths of a second in the event of a sudden deceleration, such as in an accident. The Mokka GSe Rally also has a special extinguishing system with electrically non-conductive extinguishing agent.
What's more, the Opel Mokka GSe Rally is the world's first rally car developed in accordance with the new eRally5 regulations of the FIA, the world governing body for motor sport. This means that the fast electric car will be eligible for worldwide competition from the 2026 rally season onwards.
“Opel and the ADAC have been demonstrating for more than four years that electric rallying works and inspires. With our new Opel Mokka GSE Rally, we are offering a glimpse of a next-generation all-electric rally car. Thanks to state-of-the-art motorsport technology, the prototype offers plenty of power and top performance,” says Opel CEO Florian Huettl.
